First Day in Otzenhausen
First day in Germany: A Hike and Some German Words
Plane touched down after a long flight from Orlando, into Frankfurt, and we promptly got onto a bus and rode two hours to the southwest into the small town of Otzenhausen, where the Europaische Akademie awaited us. Soon after we got into our rooms, we went on a hike to an old Celtic wall, which was interesting since I was unaware the Celts had come into Germany, I thought they had stayed in what is not the UK,
The hike was quite tough, to say the least. I think right there the group realized that we were in for a physical adventure for the next month in terms of walking. The wall was pretty cool; on the home page of this blog, I posted a picture of myself sitting on the wall, and there's a picture of the wall itself to the right. Rather fantastic that it's still standing after all this time, and also incredible that the Celts managed to move so much rock by themselves; quite the achievement, and I'm sure it was quite foreboding to any potential attacking groups. ~~ For my German 100 class, we were tasked on this day to walk around the Akademie and find five German words we didn't know and would like to know, and take pictures of them. They are shown below, though I still don't really know what they mean. All in all, it was a good, but tiring first day, looking forward to the things to come. |
